Neighbor shoots attacking pit bull

Published February 22, 2012

LEAGUE CITY — A man attacked by his neighbor’s pit bull shot the dog three times, and police put the wounded animal down, authorities said Tuesday.

The man was doing yard work at 12:31 p.m. Monday when he heard his neighbor’s son yelling for help because the dog got loose, League City police Sgt. John Jordan said.

“When he approached his neighbor’s house to tell the father what was going on, the dog lunged at him in an aggressive manner,” Jordan said. “As he was backing away from the dog, he shot it three times.”

Police arrived in the 2000 block of Pinola Court and noticed scratches on the man’s forearm.

They also found the dog alive but suffering.

An animal control officer told police nothing could be done for the dog. At the request of the owner, an officer shot the dog, Jordan said.

No charges were filed in the case, Jordan said.
