GALVESTON — Police released few details Monday in the abduction and apparent sexual assault of a woman kidnapped from downtown Galveston amid the final weekend of Mardi Gras festivities.
A woman, 23, reported the Sunday abduction by three unknown men in the 2300 block of The Strand, according to a police report obtained Monday. She was the victim of an aggravated kidnapping with the intent to commit sexual assault.
The woman apparently was last seen at 1 a.m. Sunday and found some six hours later. It is unclear whether official Mardi Gras festivities had concluded at the time of the kidnapping. The kidnapping was reported to police early Sunday evening, the report states.
The report listed three suspects in the case. Police released only vague descriptions of the suspects, saying an update would be available when they were charged. It wasn’t immediately clear whether any of the men were being questioned, detained or were in custody.
The police report obtained Monday identifies the woman, but The Daily News has a policy against naming victims of sexual assaults.
Beyond the police report, a police spokesman released few details Monday in the ongoing case, citing the fear of jeopardizing the investigation. It is unclear specifically where the woman was abducted. The police report states it was a road or alley. The report doesn’t say where the woman was found.
The police report also doesn’t say whether the woman was removed from The Strand.
