Plenty to see, do at Moody Gardens

With gas prices near $4 a gallon and air travel more expensive than ever, many people are staying closer to home when it comes to vacation.

Jane Louise Ridley

Jane Louise Ridley, 87, received her reward of eternal rest on Monday, February 6, 2012, at Vista Care Center in Irving, Texas.

Jane was born in Crockett, Texas on October 4, 1924, to Jeanie and Philip Johnson. She accepted Christ at an early age at Jasper Baptist Church. Jane attended Hopewell Elementary and graduated from Dunbar High School in Mexia, Texas. She later earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Home Economics at Tillison College in Austin, Texas. She completed her dietician internship at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois and later received her State of Texas Certification. She was employed with the Public Health Hospital, then with the University of Texas Medical Branch, in which she retired as a dietician after many years of service.

She was a loyal and dedicated servant at First Union Baptist Church, where she served as past president of the Senior Women’s Ministry and a member of the Ministers and Deacon Wives.

Jane was also a member of El Katif Court No. 115-DTRS, where she held many offices including treasurer and commandress. She also volunteered at the Tourist Bureau and RSVP.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her devoted husband of 36 years, Herman Ridley, Sr., brother, Austin Johnson; three sisters, Hattie King, Hazel James, and Bennie Webb; and sons, Herman, Jr. and Charles Ridley.

She leaves to cherish her memories: devoted daughter and son-in-law, Jeannette and Joe Mitchell; a devoted sister, Versa Johnson; devoted granddaughter, Veronica Mitchell; goddaughter, Lela Bambera (Ado); devoted nieces, Dorothy Lewis (Donald), Connie Arnick, and Thomasine Allen; six grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren; nieces, Jeanie James, Evelyn Williams (Gary); nephews, Charles James (Maxine), Eric Webb, Michael Webb; brother-in-law, Robert James; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m., Monday, February 13th, followed by a wake from 7-8:00 p.m., at First Union Baptist Church. A service celebrating her life will be held at the church on Tuesday, February 14, 2012, at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor David L. Everson officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery.
