Mildred “Millie” Herran
Hello everyone, my name is Mildred “Millie” Herran, and I was born on the 5th of March 1923, in Galveston, Texas. My youth was a little tough, as it was during the depression and times were hard for most everyone, but we made it through. I graduated from Ball High School and then went to work for “Ma Bell,” the Telephone Company. It was the beginning of WW II, and a lot of us ladies took to the work force. I met Bill Herran, my husband of 38 years, on December 7, 1941, the day Pearl Harbor was bombed. We met at one of the many dance clubs of that time and dancing was one of my great loves, along with travel and laughter, and Bill became another. He was quite a handsome soldier in the Army and was a fabulous dancer. We were married 2 months to the day after we met, on February 7, 1942. Our son Bill III was born a year later and only a few days after his birth, Bill was shipped overseas where he spent the next four years. After his return, one year later, we were blessed with another child, our daughter JoAnn. We moved from Galveston to Texas City on the Mainland in 1958, where we lived until I lost Bill to cancer in the early 80’s. A few years later, I was fortunate enough to meet another wonderful person to share my life with, Nino Martorell and we remained companions for the next 24 years. The house Bill and I built remained my home until I was 82 and decided to move into an Assisted Living facility. I remained there until January 21 of this year, when I left to be with the Lord and my loved ones , who had departed earlier. For the past 10 years, I have had to deal with Alzheimers and am now in a much better place. During my life, I was able to travel the world, seeing things and visiting places that were special to me. Playing cards and bingo were also a passion of mine. I want all my loved ones to know how much I love them. To my children, nieces, nephews, and all the dear, dear friends I made along my way, please know I am watching over each and evey one of you with a smile on my face and a hug from my heart.|
