GALVESTON — John Flowers has been named advertising director of The Galveston County Daily News.

Flowers, who has served as online sales manager since 2007, will oversee the sales efforts for all of the newspaper’s products.

Flowers, a native of League City and a graduate of Clear Creek High School, began his career as a newspaper account executive for the Bryan-College Station Eagle. He was a sales team leader and senior online account executive for DallasNews.com. In this role, he was responsible for the Internet sales efforts of a team of 30 advertising representatives.

Since 2007, Flowers has helped build the newspaper’s Internet business and launch products such as Daily News Homes, The Source and Galveston County Jobs.

“John has a tremendous passion for working with our advertising partners to develop marketing strategies that will be effective in bringing new customers to their doors,” Publisher Patrick Graham said. “Combine John’s enthusiasm and excitement with his knowledge of the community, the market, our staff and our products, and there really couldn’t have been a better choice to lead our sales efforts.”

Graham said he believes Flowers’ thorough knowledge of both The Daily News’ print and Internet products will be of substantial benefit to local retailers seeking a multimedia approach to getting their advertising message out.

“John and the rest of our sales team are going to be in a unique position to assist local businesses who want to take an integrated approach to delivering their advertising message to potential customers,” Graham said.

Flowers, who lives in League City with his wife, Christy, and two young children, said the newspaper has a compelling story to tell and serves the largest and most valuable audience in the county.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to serve The Daily News in a broader capacity,” Flowers said. “If your business wants to deliver Galveston County, The Daily News is here to help you.”
