HOUSTON — The University Interscholastic League reclassification and realignment plan was released at 9 a.m., and it’s big news for La Marque.
As expected, the Cougars will drop to Class 3A competition beginning this fall. La Marque was placed in Region III, which traditionally provides a tougher path through the playoffs than Region IV, but for a team that advanced to the Class 4A state semifinals in back-to-back seasons, the Cougars are heavy favorites in Class 3A.
For the rest of Galveston County, Clear Falls moved up to District 24-5A, joining fellow Clear Creek ISD schools Clear Creek, Clear Brook, Clear Springs and Clear Lake, as well as Dickinson and Brazoswood.
In District 24-4A, Ball High, Friendswood, Santa Fe and Texas City stay together. With the departure of Manvel, Clear Falls and La Marque, the district adds Baytown Lee, Goose Creek and Galena Park.
