Council to discuss acting city manager

Published February 2, 2012

LEAGUE CITY — On the same night League City’s city council will receive a presentation on potential city manager candidates, the council also will deliberate on the employment, duties and possible discipline of acting City Manager Rich Oller.

The item is on the council’s executive session agenda for today’s meeting.

City spokeswoman Kristy Wyatt said she did not know what the agenda item dealt with.

There is a rumor Oller said something racist, Wyatt said. But, he said, that was a rumor and she did not know if that was related to the agenda item.

Meanwhile, Oller has denied those allegations, she said.

“(Oller) said in staff meetings that, no, he did not intentionally say anything racist,” Wyatt said.

Mayor Tim Paulissen placed the item on the agenda and said it deals with an internal personnel issue.

He said he could not say anything else about the matter.

“Until we address it in executive session, it’s kind of inappropriate for me to make any comments,” Paulissen said.

Oller did not return phone calls requesting comment.

Oller was appointed the acting city manager by the city council in July of last year. The city is searching for a permanent city manager because the previous city manager, Marcus Jahns, resigned in July of last year. The Mercer Group, a management-consulting firm the city hired to conduct the search, will present potential candidates at tonight’s meeting.
