Springs trio makes all-state team

Published January 29, 2012

LEAGUE CITY — Three Clear Springs seniors were named to the 61st annual Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 5A All-State Football Team on Saturday.

Defensive lineman LaDarius Carpenter and kick returner Marcus Johnson were named to the second team, and safety Jesse Washington was a third-team pick.

“The best thing about those three is the fact that they elevated themselves so much between their junior and senior years,” Clear Springs coach Clint Hartman said. “I couldn’t have asked for a better group of leaders.”

On Wednesday, Johnson will sign a letter of intent to play for the University of Texas, and Washington will sign with the Air Force Academy. Carpenter has drawn interest from several colleges but has not verbally committed.

Spring Dekaney running back Trey Williams was the sports writers’ Offensive Player of the Year, Southlake Carroll linebacker Will Davis was the Defensive Player of the Year, and Willie Amendola, of Dekaney, was Coach of the Year.
