LM’s Wright earns sports writers’ honor

La Marque senior running back Tim Wright earned another accolade Friday when he was named to the Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 4A All-State Football Team.

Wright was voted to the all-state third team. He was the only player from Galveston County to be honored.

District 24-4A had four other players selected by the sports writers. Manvel junior guard Travis Romero and senior defensive lineman Glynn Cheeks were first-team picks, and senior Taiwan Johnson was a second-team selection. Pearland Dawson senior offensive tackle Kennedy Estelle made the first team.

Aledo senior running back Johnathan Gray was the TSWA’s Offensive Player of the Year, Denton Ryan senior lineman Mario Edwards was Defensive Player of the Year, and Hank Carter, of Lake Travis, was Coach of the Year.
