Leak repaired after contractor hits gas line

Published January 27, 2012

LEAGUE CITY — A contractor digging in a ditch along Louisiana Avenue hit a gas line around noon Thursday, police Capt. Patrick Bittner said.

The leak was contained, and the line was repaired by 2:15 p.m., he said.
The leak was near Goforth Elementary, but nothing threatened the school, he said.

The gas leak caused Clear Creek Independent School District to issue a shelter in place for League City Intermediate and Goforth Elementary from 11:51 a.m. to 2:15 p.m., said Janice Scott, a school district spokeswoman.

Students were able to continue their normal routine, she said.

“To shelter in place you lock the doors so no one goes in and out but (students) still go from class to class,” Scott said.
