Group, clinic reach out to stroke patients

GALVESTON — The University of Texas Medical Branch helps patients and their families cope with the major life changes as a result of a stroke.

Barney Shirey

HOUSTON — Barney Shirey passed from this life Saturday, January 21, 2012, after a valiant battle against lung cancer caused by Agent Orange. He was born August 26, 1949 in Jacksonville, Tx. to Lawrence and Betty Shirey. He graduated from Santa Fe High School and went on to serve in the Military. He served in the Navy as a Bm3 Boat Coxswain in Vietnam from 1968-1969. He then went on to marry the love of his life Margie Barta on August 22, 1970. He worked as a salesman in the oil field business for many years.

He is preceded in death by his father Lawrence M. Shirey. He is survived by his mother Betty Shirey, his beloved wife of 41 years Margie Ann Shirey, son Stephen Shirey and wife Robyn, 2 grandchildren he adored, Coralyn and Carter Shirey; and five siblings; Lawrence Shirey and wife Bernice, Katy Crisp and husband Joe, Wanda Loftice, Troy Shirey and wife Debbie, and Michael Shirey, plus numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be Friday, January 27th at 10:30 a.m. at American Heritage Funeral Home 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive Houston, Texas 77038, Phone No: 281-445-0050.

In lieu of flowers you can make donations to the Houston Veteran’s Hospital or the American Cancer Foundation.
