Driver in traffic stop charged with theft

LEAGUE CITY — A traffic stop turned into a felony charge for a Texas City man.At 2:33 a.m. Sunday, Daniel Fontenot, 38, was pulled over for speeding in the 1800 block of Interstate 45 South, League City police Sgt. Tamara Spencer said.

During the course of the traffic stop, i It was discovered the 1999 Yamaha YLF Fontenot was riding was not registered and he had no proof of insurance, either, Spencer said.

A search of the bike’s vehicle identification number showed it was reported stolen in Houston last year, Spencer said.

Fontenot was charged with felony theft. His bond was set at $5,000.
