Group, clinic reach out to stroke patients

GALVESTON — The University of Texas Medical Branch helps patients and their families cope with the major life changes as a result of a stroke.

GALVESTON — Mary Delois “Dee” Martin, born on February 12, 1934 in Ganado, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2012 at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston.

Dee was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was a devoted Christian who served God faithfully with her beloved husband of fifty-seven years, George Martin. Dee grew up in Louise, Texas surrounded by her family and was a1952 graduate of Louise High School. After a year at Southwestern A/G College in Waxahachie, Texas Dee worked as a nursing Aid at Nightingale Hospital in El Campo. She married the love of her life George Douglas Martin on December 27, 1954 in Louise, Texas. She and George loved to travel to places like Hawaii, Ireland, Israel, Sweden, Denmark and many other wonderful places together. Dee and George were charter members of Island Church Galveston.

Preceded in death by her father, Howard A. Hanson, mother, Lois Hanson, and brother, Howard Ray Hanson. Dee is survived by her husband, George D. Martin of Galveston; her sister Sharon K. Spangler and husband Dan of Glendora, California; Son, Pastor Rusty Martin and wife Leah Martin of Galveston; daughter Cheryl Martin of Houston, son Allen H. Martin and wife Pat of Galveston; grandchildren, Sara E. Martin and fiancé Dustin Peeples, Natalie D. Martin, and Brielen N. Martin, all of Galveston; together with numerous family members and friends.

Visitation will be held Monday, January 23, 2012 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm in the sanctuary of Island Church 2411 69th Street, Galveston.

A home-going celebration for Dee will be held Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at 10:00 am in the sanctuary of Island Church. Interment will follow at 3:00 pm in the Swedish Lutheran Cemetery, El Campo, Texas under the direction of Carnes Brothers Funeral Home of Galveston.

Pall bearers are Ted Brunt, Roland Rojas, Ben Williams, Bobby Williams, Dustin Peeples and Tod Gaskill.

Memorial contributions in the form of donations may be sent to the Island Church Building Fund.
