LA MARQUE — The Clear Falls Lady Knights defeated La Marque, 52-50, in overtime Tuesday night.
Clear Falls’ solid rebounding and foul shooting and Lady Cougars’ missed free throws were the deciding factors in the defensive battle.
“My young team listens and plays with intensity throughout the game,” Clear Falls coach Shannon Osborne said.
The game was close throughout, but the shooting of Erin Farmer (19 points) and Maggie Mulholland (13 points) hurt the Lady Cougars down the stretch. The game was closely contested all the way to the end.
Tied at the half, the Lady Cougars played excellent defense, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Lady Knights off the boards and sometimes scoring at will.
Clear Falls continued to rebound and score easy baskets, keeping the Lady Cougars back on their heels. Osborne gave credit to La Marque for executing a good game plan and never giving up.
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Cougars started hitting shots, rebounding, and playing good defense while the Lady Knights began to foul and miss easy shots.
In the overtime, only two points were scored, and that was the difference as the Lady Knights prevailed.
