Gators shine at inaugural Gulf Coast Classic

LA MARQUE — The Dickinson powerlifting team has continued to improve each year under coach Earl Ricicar. At the inaugural Gulf Coast Powerlifting Classic at La Marque, the Gators took several top honors.
Dickinson’s Tim Jenkins won the super heavyweight division by squatting 730 pounds, benching 360 and dead-lifting 550 for a total weight of 1,640 pounds.
Byron Williams placed third in the same division by squatting 545, benching 310 and dead-lifting 565. Joe Lloreda squatted 550, benched 365 and dead-lifted 500 to place fourth, and La Marque’s Shawnacy Lawson placed sixth by squatting 425, benching 315 and dead-lifting 430.
Dickinson’s Adam Eubanks finished third in the 275-pound class by squatting 455, benching 245 and dead-lifting 385. Lorenzo Castaneda won the 242-pound division for the Gators by squatting 650, benching 375 and dead-lifting 600.
Dickinson’s Scott Duke took silver in the 220-pound division by squatting 480, benching 235 and dead-lifting 450. La Marque’s Kenneth Edwards squatted 285, benched 215 and dead-lifted 325 to place seventh.
Dickinson’s Victor Tran took silver in the 181-pound division with lifts of 530, 300 and 450. Justin Gary was right behind him with a 500, 330 and 450-pound finish in the respective three categories. La Marque’s Chris Jackson lifted 365, 260 and 435 in the same division to place fifth.
Thomas Bridges was fourth in the 148-pound division for the Gators with lifts of 350, 225 and 370, and Kenny Nguyen took silver in the 132-pound division, lifting 465, 300 and 335.
La Marque’s Jacore Aldridge won the 132-pound category by squatting 405, benching 225 and dead-lifting 475. La Marque’s Alonzo Archibald finished fourth in the 123-pound class with lifts of 255, 145 and 285, and Dickinson’s Cecilio Hernandez was third with lifts of 275, 155 and 315.
For Santa Fe, Zac Schaffer placed ninth in the 165-pound division by lifting 315, 200 and 310, and Genaro Rangel was ninth in the 148-pound class by lifting 305, 165 and 300.
In the girls competition, Dickinson’s Jalyn Howell was the lone Galveston County female competitor. In the 165-pound division, Howell squatted 185 pounds, benched 85 and dead-lifted 200 for a total weight of 470 pounds.
The meet was run by Kevin Hathaway, who was overseeing his eighth consecutive meet, formerly known as the Eastside Classic.
