Don’t miss your chance to pick up a copy of “Texas City — Centennial 1911-2011, Celebrating Its Past, Present and Future.”
It’s the official Texas City Centennial Book.
The authors — Linda Cooper Holm, Nancy Walker and Tanya E. Baker — spent countless hours at The Daily News’ offices in Texas City. The project was a labor of love, and the book reflects that.
The book focuses on 2000-11 and features centennial events and pictures. It’s a companion volume to “Texas City, Images of the Twentieth Century,” by Collier A. Campbell and Susie Moncla, a history of the city to 2000.
The new volume is $25, and you can get the two-volume set for $35.
The latest book includes a timeline of the first 100 years, school awards, Texas City Independent School District Hall of Honor inductees, as well as information on historic buildings. It has a section on the Centennial Celebration itself.
The authors as well as mayors past and present will sign copies of “Texas City — Centennial 1911-2011, Celebrating Its Past, Present and Future” Thursday during “A Musical Signature Reception.”
The reception will feature performances by the Blocker Middle School Choir, the Texas City High School Show Choir, Chosen and Jacob Angel.
If you love history or if you love Texas City, plan to snag a copy and meet the people who made it possible. This book ought to be on your shelf.
