Group, clinic reach out to stroke patients

GALVESTON — The University of Texas Medical Branch helps patients and their families cope with the major life changes as a result of a stroke.

SANTA FE — Mr. Curtis Wayne Cornelius passed from this life Sunday evening, November 27, 2011, at his home.

Born May 26, 1937 in Stanton, TX, Mr. Cornelius had been a resident of Santa Fe for 33 years, previously of Odessa. He served in the US Air Force for nearly 5 years and had been employed as an operator/production specialist with Monsanto/Solutia where he retired after 35 years of service. Curtis enjoyed spending his time playing golf, camping, fishing and bowling.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Wesley and Mabel Alvirda (McCain) Cornelius; brother, Bobby George Cornelius; brothers-in-law, Billy Slatton and Roy Rawlings.

Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Judy Cornelius; sons, Cian Wesley Cornelius and Leah Stevens, of Santa Fe, John Andrew Cornelius and wife, Debbie of Alvin; grandchildren, Christina, Andrew, Brianna, Kloe and James Cornelius; brother-in-law, Otis Slatton of Highlands; sisters-in-law, Mary Rawlings of Channelview, Donna Sundstrom and husband, Charles of Houston, RosaLee Alfred and husband, Rick of The Woodlands, Vicki Clements and husband, Bryan of Houston; numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

A memorial service will be conducted 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 2, 2011 with a visitation from 5 – 7 p.m. in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway 6, (409) 925-3501, Reverend Bryan Clements officiating.
