Eagles downed in state semifinals

Published November 27, 2011

Dickinson Pine Drive’s successful season came to an end Saturday afternoon.

Playing in the Texas Association of Private and Parochial School Division II six-man state semifinal game, the Eagles fell, 61-56, in an offensive shootout with Granbury Happy Hill Farm.

Pine Drive led 24-22 at the half before a wild second-half cost the Eagles a trip to next week’s state championship game.

Pine Drive had a 34-30 lead at the start of the fourth quarter and led 42-40 with less than 7 minutes left before Happy Hill Farm won by a nose in a photo finish in Rockdale.

It was only the second time in Pine Drive’s school history the Eagles advanced to the state semifinals. Head coach Wayne Ware previously led Pine Drive to the game in 2007 when the Eagles also lost.
