Group, clinic reach out to stroke patients

GALVESTON — The University of Texas Medical Branch helps patients and their families cope with the major life changes as a result of a stroke.

Princess tea presents ballerina additions to Jeté

A beautiful Ballerina Princess Tea recently was hosted at the home of former Kemah Mayor Bill King to announce Kennedy Dance Theatre’s 2011-12 Jeté Co.

All of KDT’s younger aspiring ballerinas were invited to attend and wear their favorite princess outfit. After receiving special autographs from the company members, guests were treated to lunch and tea overlooking a picturesque waterfront view. A performance by Jete’ topped off the afternoon with Milena Leben, Jeté director and choreographer, announcing the new company members.

This year’s Jeté Co. mems are Sarah Blackshear, Lilly Boily, Erica Carmona, Cherilene Guzman, Michelle McKay, Nicolette Mojica, Sarah Neisler, Caroline Senter and Madeleine Tao. This advanced ballet company will perform at the Jewish Community Center, Youth America Grand Prix and will be showcased at KDT’s annual Nutcracker performance Dec. 17-18.

From Tea To Tee …

Meals on Wheels’ funder golfarama starts the morning of Nov. 18 at the Galveston Country Club, beginning with “Breakfast on the Go.”

Immediately following the tournament is the awards luncheon with fine prizes and for the first time a four-day, three-night stay at the Wyndham’s brand new Bonnet Creek Resort inside Disney World gates.

Later the same day, still at the GCC is its “Dinner With the Arts.” Chef Vega has a wonderful buffet dinner planned. There is a cash bar and lots of “for free” door prizes.

Galveston’s own Nina Kay will provide an evening of music. We have a fantastic silent auction, which is provided through the generosity of local artists. These same artists will offer their art for purchase as well.

Remember, all proceeds go to Galveston Island Meals on Wheels, which provides a hot meal five days a week delivered by dedicated volunteers to the elderly, handicapped and infirmed of Galveston Island. They are supported only through the generosity of others.

Junior League Starting 86th Year

The Junior League of Galveston County announced its 86th year with the Leadership Council, which will guide the league through 2011-12.

Yvette Schulz will lead the league as president with Amanda Gaido, Amy Brown, Holly Pelletier, Cindi Lyons, Shannon Lecoq, Molly Crow, Lynsey Ginsberg and Doryn Glenn.

The league continues to grow and evolve, meeting the changing needs of the area. With an unrivaled commitment to the communities it serves, league members have proudly spent more than 130,000 hours volunteering throughout Galveston County in the last 11 years alone.

The Junior League of Galveston County stands poised to continue its mission-driven work helping the children, women and families of Galveston County reach their full potential.

Knights Cruise Booking Up

Columbus is back on the high seas … the Knights of Columbus are taking the Carnival Cruise Ship Triumph Trip on Jan. 26.

Prices are around-aboutish 500 or 600 bux. The cutoff date is mid November, so you have only two weeks to get it together.
