Driver uninjured after car flips into marsh

BAYOU VISTA — A 25-year-old Galveston woman escaped injury after her car slid off Interstate 45 and flipped over into the marsh Tuesday afternoon. The former California resident climbed out the back of her car, which landed on its hood on the edge of the water near Exit 7A of the northbound side of the Gulf Freeway.

Galveston County Sheriff’s Office deputies said the motel worker was driving her Scion in the inside lane northbound on I-45 when she decided to attempt a lane switch to the outside lane.

When she realized she had gone too far over, she attempted to go back into the middle lane, but another car was there. She overcorrected, lost control of her car, which slid off the freeway, across the median and across the feeder road before flipping once end-over-end, landing on its hood just a few feet from a billboard, deputies said.

A bit muddy after crawling out through the car’s hatchback, the woman escaped the car and appeared uninjured. She declined medical service on the scene while waiting for a relative to pick her up.

Deputies said the woman was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the accident.
