Group, clinic reach out to stroke patients

GALVESTON — The University of Texas Medical Branch helps patients and their families cope with the major life changes as a result of a stroke.

Miss Kelley Ann Guarino and Mr. Buster Caballero were united in marriage on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at seven o’clock in the evening at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Galveston, Texas. The ceremony was officiated by Father Page Polk, O.F.M. Music for the ceremony was performed by Divisi Strings; organist Deb Lewis and vocalist Margarita Sims. Readings were delivered by sister and godmother of the groom, Tammy DeBona of Alexandria, Louisiana. A reception followed at The San Luis Resort where guests danced to the music of The Argyles of Austin, Texas. Flowers were provided by Lisa Tran. On the eve of the wedding, the groom’s family hosted a New Orleans themed rehearsal dinner catered by Benno’s at The Roof Garden on The Strand.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael J. Guarino II of League City, Texas. She is the granddaughter of Chris and Ervin Apffel, Jr. of Galveston, Texas; Della Grace Guarino and the late Judge Joseph M. Guarino of Houston, Texas. The groom is the son of Laura Owen Caballero of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Gary Caballero of Cut Off, Louisiana. He is the grandson of the late Ruth and Philip Sandras of Cut Off, Louisiana, the late Richard Owen of Bayou Blue, Louisiana and the late Belle and Rene` Caballero of Plattenville, Louisiana.

Presented in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore an elegant ivory, one-shoulder gown of dupioni silk. The gown featured a ruched bodice adorned with a stunning appliqué of Swarovski crystal beading. The full skirt draped to an asymmetrical line of softly pleated ruffles, which fell into a long chapel train. To complement her gown, the bride wore a cathedral length veil, with accents of crystals and pearls along the scalloped edge. She completed her look with a hand-tied bouquet of pink phalaenopsis orchids and white garden roses, adorned with her mother’s crystal rosary blessed by Pope John Paul II.

The bride’s cousin, Sarah Apffel, of League City, Texas served as Maid of Honor. Jennifer Jenkins of League City, Texas and Courtney Kuhn of San Antonio, Texas served as Matrons of Honor. Bridesmaids included sister of the groom, Sebastian Ashton of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Lauren Suderman and cousin of the bride, Kate Apffel; both of League City, Texas. Minimaids were cousins and goddaughters of the bride, Kirby Jane Landry of Friendswood, Texas and Marlee Whittington of League City, Texas. Honor attendants were cousins of the bride, Allie Apffel of Texas City, Texas; Caylin Del Papa of Friendswood, Texas; Allison Danna, Carol Danna, and Jodie Stocker, all of Houston, Texas; and nieces of the groom, Bailey DeBona and Samantha DeBona of Alexandria, Louisiana. Caitlyn Kuhn, goddaughter of the bride and groom, and Abigail Jenkins, goddaughter of the bride served as flower girls; and the ring bearer was Boots Landry, cousin of the bride. The Bridesmaids and Honor Attendants carried bouquets of hot pink and orange garden roses, purple orchids and green hydrangeas against their dresses of bougainvillea and black dupioni silk.

Mr. Triston Elliott of Lake Charles, Louisiana served as Best Man. Groomsmen included brother-in-law of the groom, Chip Ashton of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Clint Jenkins of League City, Texas; Tim Kuhn of San Antonio, Texas; Thomas Landers of Lake Charles, Louisiana; and Andy Landry of Friendswood, Texas. Ushers were cousins of the bride, Blake Apffel and Kaleb Apffel of Texas City, Texas; Ross Apffel and Moore Whittington of League City, Texas; L.J. Del Papa of Friendswood, Texas; Ben Danna, and Greg Guarino, both of Houston, Texas.

Kelley is a graduate of Clear Creek High School and Texas A&M University at College Station. She received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She earned a Master of Arts in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Houston. She is a Speech-Language Pathologist in Clear Creek I.S.D.

Buster is a graduate of South Lafourche High School and Louisiana State University. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He is employed by Moody Gardens as an accountant.

Following their honeymoon cruise to the Eastern Caribbean, Kelley and Buster will reside in League City, Texas with their dogs, Bella and John Wayne.
