Relay For Life Reception Thursday
GALVESTON — Relay for Life of Galveston will have a Survivor and Caregiver Reception from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at La King’s Confectionary, 2323 Strand St.
The reception is an opportunity to honor cancer survivors and gives them a chance to meet and talk with other survivors and caregivers. Attendees also will have an opportunity to learn about services and programs the American Cancer Society has to offer.
Survivors also are encouraged to register for Relay for Life of Galveston and participate in the survivor lap that helps begin the annual event.

Movers And Shapers Networking Event Friday
GALVESTON — Nia Cultural Center will have its Movers and Shapers Networking Mixer from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Moody Mansion, 2618 Broadway.
Attendees will have a chance to mix and mingle with an array of African-American newcomers, community leaders, business owners and progressive organizations.
Invited to be introduced are Diane Williams, legal consultant and organizational development specialist; Kelly Richardson, owner of Hello Gorgeous Girls Spa; Vanessa Emami, owner of Tranquillity Hospice; Andrew Earls, project manager; A.O. Phillips and Associates; Chrishelle Palay, policy analyst for Texas Low Income Housing Information Services; Willie Holmes, owner, Holmes Awards and Trophies; the Rev. Antonio Smith Jr., Without an Umbrella Ministries; and Cornelia Harris-Banks, owner, Galveston Concierge.
A donation of $20 per person or $35 per couple is asked, which will support the center’s Children’s Defense Fund Freedom School and Freedom Tour.

Kemah to host park projects meeting
KEMAH — The city of Kemah will have a town hall meeting about park projects within city limits at 2 p.m. today at city hall, 1401 state Highway 146. For information and agenda items, call 281-334-1611.

Free glaucoma screenings
FRIENDSWOOD — Eye specialists with the University of Texas Medical Branch will provide free glaucoma screenings and information during World Glaucoma Week, Monday through Friday.
Screenings are available without an appointment from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday at the UTMB Health Eye Center in Friendswood, 400 W. Parkwood, Suite 120.
Free information about glaucoma will be available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday in the UTMB Health Eye Center lobbies in Friendswood and Galveston, 700 University Blvd.
The screenings are free and open to the public; however, if you would like to schedule an appointment with an eye specialist, call 409-747-5800 in Galveston or 281-996-7564 in Friends-wood.
