Creek’s state record?

Clear Creek basketball fans can point with pride to several things about the dynasty started by George Carlisle in the mid 1950s that stretched into the early ’70s. But most likely would say it was the 19 straight district championships that would have continued indefinitely had not a second high school been built in the district.
I long had wondered if that was a state record and decided to do some research. Several months ago, I talked to several coaches from schools that might have won as many consecutive district championships as our 19.
Calvert and Snook each won 17 straight, but the Snook coach said Moulton might have won more than Creek.
I phoned the coach, Sammy Koudelka, and he told me he had retired just the day before with more than 1,100 career wins and with a current string of 28 straight playoff appearances.
Of course, the only thing that counts are first place finishes, and that can be hard to track with the current four playoff teams from each district situation.
I asked him if Moulton had finished first every year and he responded, “We may have, I’m not sure.” He did not know of anyone I could contact with precise information on the matter.
I am going to claim the state record for old Clear Creek and let someone challenge us. They better be able to prove their claim.
Speaking of Moulton, that team came to League City for a game in 1960 and was one of Clear Creek’s 39 victims that year. We were loaded with such stars as all-state Bennie Lenox, juniors Paul Timmins and Norman Lunday and sophomore Bill Doty. It was a slaughter from the start as we raced to a 17-1 first quarter lead on the way to a 36-14 halftime bulge and coasted to a 57-40 win. Moulton never came to League City again.
