UTMB’s Malloy appointed to professorship

Dr. Michael H. Malloy, professor in the department of pediatrics, division of neonatology, has been appointed the inaugural holder of the John P. McGovern Distinguished Professorship in Oslerian Education.
The endowment was established this year through the support of the McGovern Foundation to benefit the School of Medicine Osler Student Societies.
Reaccreditation Visits Go Well
The Clinical Laboratory Sciences and the Physician Assistant Studies departments in the School of Health Professions conducted successful reaccreditation site visits by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences and the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, respectively.
Runge Leads Radiology
Dr. Val M. Runge is the new chairman of the department of radiology.
He came to UTMB from Scott and White Clinic and Hospital, Texas A&M University Health Science Center, in Temple, where he was the Robert and Alma Moreton Centennial Chair in Radiology. Runge specializes in 1.5 and 3 Tesla magnetic resonance imaging of the brain and spine.
He is editor-in-chief of Investigative Radiology and an editorial board member for the Journal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Topics in Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
Student Ambassadors
The Student Ambassador Society in the School of Health Professions is conducting a recruitment drive.
The organization’s focus is on service to the SHP community. Members participate in numerous events, from health fairs to alumni reunions to conducting tours for prospective students.
Wisnewski Is Reviewer
School of Nursing associate professor Charlotte A. Wisnewski has been asked to review chapters in the seventh edition of Basic Arrythmias for Pearson Education’s Brady Publishing.
Transplant Website
The Texas Transplant Center at UTMB, under the direction of Dr. Luca Cicalese, has launched a website with information for patients and family members as well as medical professionals.

Sale Benefits Programs
A jewelry sale benefiting patient and volunteer programs is set from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday in the white hallway on the first floor of John Sealy Hospital.
Volunteers Needed
Healthy male and female volunteers are needed for a NASA-related study examining muscle metabolism and nutrition during inactivity.
The study involves a 26-day stay at UTMB’s General Clinical Research Center. Volunteers must be nonsmokers, 45 to 60 years old and of normal height and weight.
Volunteers are compensated for their time.
