GALVESTON — A Pasadena man was in jail Sunday accused of hitting another man in the head with a baseball bat in the parking lot of the Walmart store on Seawall Boulevard, police said.

Police arrested Alex Palomo, 34, of Pasadena, and charged him with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

About 10:45 p.m. Saturday, police received a call about a large disturbance in the store’s parking lot, 6700 Seawall Blvd., Capt. Jeff Heyse, public information officer, said.

When officers arrived, a man, who said he was an employee of Walmart, told them he had walked outside to meet friends who had come to pick him up from work. The employee saw a group of men trying to start a fight with his friends, according to police reports.

As the man walked up to his friends, one member of the opposing group approached unprovoked and punched him in the face.

Witnesses told police the man picked up a baseball bat and started chasing people with it.

Two of the employee’s friends were struck with the bat, one in the head and the other in the left arm, police said.

A security guard on the scene told police another man, who’s identity was not know, took the bat from Palomo and chased him across the parking lot.

The two people struck by the bat did not have life-threatening injuries and were taken to the John Sealy emergency room.

Palomo was in jail Sunday, held on $500,000 bond.

Another Pasadena man, Ariel Navor Ham, 20, who told police Palomo was his uncle, also was arrested. Ham was charged with interfering with a public servant. His bond was set at $1,500.
