TEXAS CITY Little League Baseball officials were expected to decide Wednesday night whether to discipline a coach accused of using the F-word during a game.
This latest incident is unrelated to two other coaches charged with disorderly conduct after an on-field brawl last month, but it marks the third arrest of a Texas City Little League coach since March 27.
Jeremy Brian Delgado, 33, was released on $170 bond, stemming from his April 8 arrest on a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge during a game at Godard Park, Texas City police and a Municipal Court official said Wednesday.
Two other coaches were arrested March 27 at the same youth baseball fields and fined after a disagreement about a trick play led to on-field fisticuffs, police said. Both coaches were suspended, a board member said.
Kenneth Brown, president of the Texas City Little League, said Delgados incident would be discussed at a regular 7 p.m. Wednesday board meeting that was expected to last a couple of hours.
Delgado is accused of unleashing a couple of F-bombs, Texas City police Capt. Brian Goetschius said.
A parent who said he was upset about how a coach handled his son made the allegation, Goetschius said.
The father of the child who was yelled at asked The Daily News not to reveal his name for fear of reprisal against his son. The game involved 9- and 10-year-old boys.
The father said his son was on the field but not doing anything out of the ordinary during a bases-loaded ground out to shortstop that ended an inning.
He said he approached Delgado, asking why another coach yelled at his son.
Delgado, one of two assistants, then had words with the head coach on his team, in support of the boy who was yelled at, Goetschius said.
Delgado is accused of yelling bad language at the coach and assistant coach as the argument escalated, Goetschius said. He also is accused of using the same sort of language toward an umpire when he was ejected.
A Texas City police officer saw the commotion and heard some language before arresting Delgado, Goetschius said.
An attempt to reach Delgado for comment was unsuccessful. He is set for a May 14 arraignment, a court official said.
Meanwhile, authorities have decided not to charge a third coach stemming from an incident during the March 27 brawl.
J.D. Cooper told The Daily News he tried to break up the opposing coaches disturbance and was choked until he blacked out.
Cooper decided against pressing charges, saying it would be difficult for prosecutors to prove who choked him.
And people started trying to say I kicked somebody, and there would be possible charges against me, Cooper said.
