HITCHCOCK — A man was arrested after leading police on a high-speed car pursuit and foot chase through marshlands about 3 a.m. Sunday, police said.
Donta Jamar Evans, 19, was booked into Galveston County Jail and charged with evading arrest with a motor vehicle, a state jail felony.
Evans also was charged with unlawful possession of a handgun and resisting arrest, both class A misdemeanors.
Bond was set at $70,000 for the evading charge, and $1,000 for both misdemeanor charges.
Police signaled for Evans to pull over after he ran a stop sign at the intersection of Wayne Johnson Avenue and Prino Road, Hitchcock police Sgt. Nathan Peters said.
Police pursued the vehicle eastbound on state Highway 6, reaching speeds of up to 120 mph, Peters said.
The vehicle crashed into a guardrail after it attempted to merge north onto Interstate 45.
Police chased the suspect through marshes toward the Omega Bay residential area in Bayou Vista and eventually found the man hiding under a boat dock, Peters said.
Officers from Bayou Vista, Hitchcock, La Marque and Tiki Island police departments and sheriff’s deputies responded to the incident.
