Get ready for more — in print, on television and radio, and online.
On the anniversary of the hurricane, Galveston County will be the center of a lot of media attention. In addition to coverage of recovery efforts across the county, The Daily News will focus on anniversary events in Galveston, San Leon and Bolivar Peninsula this weekend.
“Hurricane Ike a year later: Battered not beaten,” a special edition magazine that includes stories from newspaper staff members as well as personal stories of recovery from residents of the county, will be featured in Sunday’s edition.
The Daily News also will have online coverage, including videos and photos of the anniversary events taking place this weekend.
In addition, three content partners of The Daily News will offer coverage on television, online and on the radio.
On The Tube
Houston TV stations have aired pieces nightly looking at the recovery efforts.
KHOU-TV Channel 11 will broadcast live from the Bolivar Peninsula Ike commemoration ceremony in Crystal Beach on Saturday night.
On Sunday, the station will cover Galveston’s rebirth events and offer a close look at island businesses’ efforts to find workers, Managing Editor Bill Bishop said.
Other Houston TV stations have live coverage of local events planned as well.
On The radio
On the radio, KTRH 740 AM will have a slew of special guests this morning to talk about Ike and the recovery efforts.
Gov. Rick Perry, U.S. Sens. Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Cornyn, Steve Lyons of the Weather Channel and former first lady Barbara Bush will be guests on the radio station’s morning show, news director Roger Hudson said.
On The Web
Galveston.com has slide shows and video from a year ago, as well as from this week’s commemoration events. The Web site also is providing a podcast discussing the anniversary events, Jim Cordell said.
Cordell said the Web site’s new Facebook page is also the home of a lot of the extra video of the commemoration events.
Cordell’s group also is providing regular Twitter updates as reminders of anniversary events in Galveston.
