Betty Jean Martin
GALVESTON — Betty Jean Martin, age 79 of Dickinson, died Friday November 6, 2009, at Baywind Village Care Center in League City. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Monday November 9, 2009, at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home in Galveston, Reverend Paul Woodward officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Sunday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Betty was born September 30, 1930, in Galveston, Texas, to August James Moore and Mary Ryan Moore. She went to Lovenberg Middle School and was a 1947 graduate of Ball High School. Betty spent many years in the banking industry working for First Hutchings Sealy National Bank from 1957 until 1962, then Moody National bank where she worked through the 1970’s. She left to open her own business in La Marque, Mahazelle’s Beauty Salon, for many years before returning to banking at Texas First Bank until her retirement. Betty was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Galveston for many years. In her younger days she was the 1961 National Water Skiing Champion from Galveston. She was a very giving lady who shared her blessings with many people. She loved music and enjoyed dancing, was an immaculate housekeeper and a fantastic cook.
Preceded in death by her parents; husband Clemon” Blackie” Mahazell Martin; brother James August Moore; and sister Mary Jo Moffett. Survivors include son Neal Eugene Kadlecek, Jr.; nieces Susan Mullins, Nell Zahirniak (Sam), and Lori Walsch (Chris); nephews James August Moore, Jr. (Martha), David Wayne Moore ( Pam), and Ronald Ray Moore ( Ginger); and sister in law Della Mae Moore.
