GALVESTON — Initial results from water tests performed by city crews at four places on the island showed no signs of Legionella bacteria.
The city ordered tests last week after officials from the University of Texas Medical Branch announced they had found the bacteria, which can cause Legionnaires’ Disease, a form of pneumonia, in the water supply at John Sealy Hospital.
Crews used a polymerase chain reaction to test the water at the water treatment plant in Texas City, the Virginia Point metering station, the 30th Street pump station and the elevated storage tank at the medical branch.
Results from a bacteria culture test will be available later this month.
