William Ace “Capt. Ace” Hedger
June 05, 1930 — November 05, 2009
William Ace “Capt. Ace” Hedger, 79, won his battle with Alzheimer’s; Capt. Ace never let his disease get him down. He is at peace, sailing free and working God’s garden now.
Capt. Ace was born in Port Bolivar, Texas. He started his professional shrimping career at age 14. His first boat was the “Michael Jean.” He then built, owned and operated the “Miss Bernice” until he retired. Capt. Ace was well known, not only in Bolivar, but up and down the Gulf Coast and Florida.
Ace had a “green thumb.” He spent tireless hours working his beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. He loved his “Little Boy,” Panda Bear, who comforted and guarded him.
He was a member of Bay Vue United Methodist Church and did volunteer work for the Jessie Tree. He sponsored and supported Bolivar’s women’s softball.
Capt. Ace and his wife relocated to Washington, Pennsylavania, after Hurricane Ike.
Survivors include his wife Norma Jean Litman Hedger of Washington, Pennsylvania; sons Norma Ace of San Antonio, Texas, and William Michael of Galveston, Texas; daughter Debra Jean Chesnutt Brown of Beaumont, Texas; grandchildren, great grand children and many cousins and other relatives.
