Fellowship Baptist Church will celebrate its 61st anniversary at 8 a.m. Sunday at 312 Rose St. in Texas City.
“Our church motto is, ‘Where son shines early in the morning, not the sun,’” Gwendolyn Settler, who has been a member for 11 years, said. G.W. Singleton Jr. has led the church for 24 years.
The special guest will be the Rev. Jerome Nickerson of Independent Heights Baptist Church, of Houston, Settler said. “It will be a celebration of our fellowship together.”

Deb Grant, pastor of Faith Lutheran Church in Dickinson, has won a National Best Book award for her book “ELOGOS: Daily Devotions for Down to Earth Disciples.” It may be the first Christian book designed with text messaging in mind.
Grant said she considers herself to be an electronic missionary.
“It can be difficult for our spiritual lives to get a word in edgewise,” she said. “ELOGOS is short enough to share using text messaging or Facebook.”
The tome’s title drives from the mashup of e-mail and the Greek word for logic or reason. It is available at Amazon.com.

On Nov. 22, the First United Methodist Church of Texas City will be holding its second annual Walk-n-Share. “This ministry started last year and was a huge success,” organizer Phil Cayton said. “The people here are not wealthy and have been affected by the economic downturn more than most. Last year, due to Hurricane Ike, we had numerous people tell us that they were not even planning a Thanksgiving meal before we delivered the boxed meals.”
Members of the church will meet at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 21 in the fellowship hall, 317 Fifth Ave. N., to put together containers that will include a complete Thanksgiving meal with all the fixings.
After assembly is complete, they will deliver the dinners to the neighborhoods surrounding the church.

The November Friendswood Prayer Breakfast will be on the miracle of prayer, featuring a talk by Margaret Limmer.
Limmer, a local elementary schoolteacher, said she wanted to encourage and inspire people.
“I want them to stop and listen to what God is saying to them,” she said. “I’ll relate an experience I had in 1989 that taught me how God was in control.”
The event is at 7:10 a.m. Nov. 21 at 2051 Parkwood in Friendswood. A $5 donation and reservations are suggested.
