The Revival and Reflections Sunrise Service will be at 7 a.m. Sunday at The Hotel Galvez, 21st Street and Seawall Boulevard, in Galveston.
The service, originally set for Stewart Beach Park Pavilion, was moved indoors because of expected heavy rains.
“This early morning event is an opportunity for our community to come together for a time of prayer and thanksgiving,” the Rev. David H. Green, pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Galveston, said. “I anticipate that we’ll have as many as a dozen different clergy participants representing a variety of faith traditions and beliefs. In addition to the clergy, the service will include music performed by the Ike Anniversary Choir, led by Larry Patton and accompaniment by Bonnye Karger.
“Everyone is invited to this sunrise service. Together we will celebrate our greatest hopes on the dawn of a new day. There is something very honest about standing side by side with neighbors and family, and together acknowledging all that we have lost and praying together for all that we hope to regain.”
The service is sponsored by the city of Galveston and the Galveston Ministerial Association to mark the anniversary of Hurricane Ike.
