Divafaves at the Rosenberg Tome Dome have been c’brating executive director John Augelli’s big 6-0 birthday.
Library board mems, staff and family joined together to surprise him on the big day, Nov. 20.
John was completely surprised, as everyone managed to keep the event a secret.
They coded it the JASB affair, which stands for John Augelli’s Sixtieth Birthday, and the code name was “Junior Archivists of Southern Beeville,” whose acronym also spells JASB.
You know they had a blast sneaking ’round like spies with secrets!
Baby Apple and TomeDome literati there for the fun were Jan Coggeshall, Michael Doherty, Fellman Seinsheimer III, Roland Bassett, Susan Eckel, Pamela Froeschner, Billie Hoskins and David Salyer.
Enjoying the delightful assortment of food, including barbecue beef, couscous, hummus, tabbouleh, baba ganoush, spinach casserole and birthday cake, were staffers Helen Campos, Carolyn Williams, Ryan Anderson, David Baines, Barbara Arnold, sheronda Carter, Sydney Harwell, Casey Greene, Nikkie Ferre and Shelia Dotson-Hall, plus Mary Hernandez, Karen Stanley, Gretchen Schulz, Michele Quinn, Marilyn Lyons-Letroise, Brittni Love, Nathaniel Jones, Lisa Jamail and James Hollins visiting with Jay Sims, Karen Stanley, Delo White and Carol Wood in the Harris Gallery on the third floor of the Rosenberg Library.
Divathanks to Poom Sunhachaw-Taylor for the deets.
Machele And Teri Cook Up A Triumph
Congratulations on a successful fall luncheon for the members of UTMB Faculty Women’s Club!
Their newly created interest groups (for reading to dining and tot care to scholarships) sparked overwhelming excitement.
Machele Chaljub and Teri Callender have galvanized the women of the DocShop (talk about a sleeping giant) and their collective amazing enthusiasm is contagious!
One could feel the pheromones emanating from the Olympia Grill, where the big meal was eaten.
Great seeing honcho Machele and some of the newly organized interest group leaders — Kelly Chambers of the book club, Marsha Ullrich of coffee talk, Dena Yngve of gardening, Kathy Elger of golf, Elinor Coleman and Marsha Ullrich of “Let’s Visit Houston” and Diana Holgiin of the painting groups.
Other leaders there were Carolyn Holland, Kathy Valentine, Barbara Rabek, Shirley Ksiazek, Anne B,sier, Beth Shriner and Maryellen Leduc.
Yellow Roses Of Texas
Mercy Park Association of Galveston CEO Joyce Daniel presented 18, count’em 18 humanitarian senior honorees at the association’s “Yellow Rose” banquet in Moody Gardens’ Ballroom.
About 300 guests came from the four corners of America to salute these deserving seniors with yellow rose fans declaring “I am a Fan of Yours.”
Taking bows were Clarence Cantini, Judge Henry Dalehite, Lionel George, Elizabeth Head, Mary Jaramillo, John Parson, Leonard Phillips, Lucy Ramirez, Patrick Ryan, John Ryder, Lizzie Shaw and Servera Socias.
Soooo happy to have Blanche Scarlet from her nursing home, Tillie Demoratsky and her broken hip and Cora Elias, whose hubby, Oveail, is in the DocShop.
Veep Michael Daniel welcomed all dressed in the most vi, rant yellow and Franciscan friar Father E.J. Steins gave the blessing.
Wilda Carrier (with nine tables of family and friends) won first prize, a stay at Moody Gardens, while Sister Mary Frances Heins’ three tables of Dominican nuns and alumni carried off the second prize, dinner at Clary’s.
All were entertained by Joseph Sewell on the 88’s and Keith Ward, soloist.
Committee mems were Pat Moreno, Leana Dennings, Diane Brown, Vince Wilson, Carolyn Smither, Adeline Anges and Dorothy Becker.
And Now, Chat Of New Krewe Members
As the Diva announced last week, the Krewe of Gambrinus has been introducing its members to this year’s new beads as well as its newest sign-ons.
The home of Shane and Renee Donaldson in Friendswood was the venue.
There were 18 new members, as seen in last week’s photo.
And the Krewe’s family day barbecue and cook off at the beach home of King Gambrinus XX Gerry Pate and his lovely wife, ’06 queen Lois, was a mega event, with a large crowd, good food, drinks and music.
The Krewe has events all year so, if you are interested in joining, visit its Web site at www.kreweofgambrinus.org for more information.
