Hello Cupcake: For some, the word “cupcake,” is attention-grabbing enough. But toss in the word “naked,” and it’s sure to cause a buzz. Angela Fanos has done just that with the opening of The Naked Cupcake & Coffee Cafe, 1001 S. FM 270, in League City.
Why naked? The cupcakes are au naturel until customers dress them with icings of their own choosing. Options include chocolate, strawberry, vanilla and cream cheese. The shop offers espresso drinks, frappés, smoothies, Greek and Turkish coffees and more.
Most cupcakes come in tiny packages, but the shop also makes some that serve up to 10 people.
Hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Sunday. For information, call 281-554-2794.
Composing ourselves: Is this a masterpiece in the making? Readers are reporting crews are putting the finishing touches on Opus Bistro, 1002 Aspen St., in Clear Lake Shores. Chef Christopher Simon, who, according to a report by South Shore Dockside Food & Wine Festival organizers, is behind the highly anticipated eatery, could not be reached for comment.
Opus Bistro will offer continental cuisine and a casual waterfront dining experience at affordable prices. Stay tuned.
Subway spruces up: After closing several weeks for renovation, sandwich shop Subway, 1000 FM 1764, in La Marque, has returned.
‘Bright and happy’: The island’s art scene continues to flourish. Jennifer Peck has opened PeckArts, 2208 Postoffice St. Peck, who has more than 20 years experience running galleries in San Francisco and Austin, initially will feature her own work, which she describes as “bright and happy island-oriented collages.”
Peck’s father has owned a Pirates’ Beach house for 30 years, where she now is a resident.
Her subjects include birds, sunsets, flowers, cocktails and umbrellas. Peck also plans to soon exhibit her paintings of nudes.
The gallery also plans to exhibit other artists working in all media during Artwalk events. (A holiday-inspired Artwalk is planned for Saturday.) For information about the gallery, call 409-621-1500 or visit http:www.peckarts.com.
Take a look at this: Meanwhile, The Eye Clinic of Texas’ island office, 2302 Ave. P, has taken on a new role as a gallery, displaying the work of Sugar Land artist Diana Green.
Green’s nonrepresentational paintings are “bright and bold and are a treat for the imagination,” Dr. Allan Fradkin said. Green’s work is on loan and available for sale. For information, call toll-free 800-423-3937, or visit www.ecot.com.
Also, look for the Eye Clinic to show its collection of designer frames, including Dolce & Gabbana, Roberto Cavalli and Prada at Saturday’s Artwalk.
Biz Buzz appears Tuesdays and Thursdays.
