Lobby Congress To End Cuba Blockade

I read a report about how a political action committee in Florida is campaigning to block Texans’ travel and interaction with Cuba.

This report is titled “How Cuban American hard-liners influence Congress with campaign contributions” (www.pub

licampaign.org/cuba).

According to the report, Texas Congressman Kevin Brady is one of the top recipients of campaign contributions from this group headquartered in Miami.

I urge anyone who shares my opinion that our government blockade of Cuba is one of the most counterproductive policies we continue to enforce to let their Congress member know.

Tea Baggers Should Learn The Constitution

For anyone who is going to be a tea bagger and shoot their mouth off about protecting our Constitution, it would be good to know what is in the Constitution.

A case in point is the Seventh Amendment of the Constitution, which gives us the right to a trial by jury for civil disputes such as a new home defect, credit card disputes or a lemon car.

Unfortunately, our right to a trial has been replaced with mandatory binding arbitration in nearly every contract a family will sign, including the purchase of a new home, new car, insurance, credit cards and, sometimes, medical operations.

The argument isn’t whether arbitration is fast, fair or less expensive — it’s that a mandatory binding-arbitration clause is in violation of our Constitution, a fact the Tea Bag Party has not acknowledged.

Anyone who is going to be a tea baggers claiming to protect the Constitution should, at the very least, know what they’re claiming to protect.

No Need For Isle Vote On Smoking Policy

Galveston doesn’t have to vote on a smoking policy (“Smoking ban could be changed or put to voters,” The Daily News, Nov. 13).

The people express their choice when and if they freely choose, or not, to patronize a business that permits or doesn’t permit smoking.

Its called “freedom of choice” — something we seem to be losing.
