HITCHCOCK — A motorcyclist attempting to pass an automobile died after colliding head-on with an oncoming sport utility vehicle, authorities said Monday.
James Raybon, 32, of Hitchcock, was traveling north on FM 2004 at 1:47 p.m. Saturday, when he tried to pass a car in a curve near Tacquard Ranch Road, John Florence, Galveston County Medical Examiner’s Office spokesman, said.
Raybon, who drove a Yamaha north in the southbound lane, collided with a 2005 Toyota Sequoia, a Department of Public Safety spokeswoman said.
The speed limit on the two-lane highway is 65 mph, but an initial report with the Department of Public Safety didn’t list either vehicle’s speed.
Raybon died of blunt-force trauma, Florence said. No other injuries were reported.
State troopers closed the highway while investigating the crash.
