Phillips 65th Wedding Anniversary
Emma Jene and Leonard B. Phillips Sr. of Galveston celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary, Tuesday, May 26, 2009. The Phillips were married on May 26, 1944 at St. Mary’s Cathedral Church with Rev. D.P. O’Connell officiating.
Emma graduated in 1943 from Dominican High School and Leonard graduated from Kirwin High School the same year. Both graduated ceremonies were held at St. Mary’s Cathedral Church where the couple was married the following year.
After graduation Leonard joined the Navy and served in the Philippines as a Seabee.
After discharged he worked for American Indemnity Insurance Company for 35 years; retiring in 1990.
Emma worked at St. Mary’s Hospital until retirement in 1981. She joined Internal Medicine Associates the same year and retired in 1981. They were blessed with four sons: Leonard Jr. (Butch) and wife Mitzi Phillips of Galveston; Jerry and wife Nina Phillips of Austin; David and wife Jackie Phillips of Henderson, Nevada; and Michael and wife Dianne of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Grandchildren: Todd Phillips (Tiffany) of League City; Lauren Phillips Simoni (Marco), London, England; Brendon Phillips (Sabrina) Doho, Qatan; Patrick Phillips, Stephanie Phillips, Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Shawn Phillips, Jessica Phillips, Henderson, Nevada; Great Grandchildren, Megan Phillips of League City, and Nicolo Simoni, London, England.
As the Phillips celebrate their anniversary they are reminded of Father Dan’s words as he handed them a statue of the Infant Jesus, “Two little children getting married. You have a lot to prove.”
