BOLIVAR PENINSULA — About 60 workers from CenterPoint Energy began working Thursday to repair electrical lines on the Bolivar Peninsula.
Joe Domino, president and chief executive officer of Entergy Texas, said the plan was for CenterPoint crews to restore lines from Port Bolivar to Winnie.
“When they get there, our hope would be to be ready to turn the power back on,” he said.
How soon that might happen, he said, was still unclear.
“I might have an answer by tomorrow,” he said.
The service cannot be restored, he said, until a major east-west transmission line has been repaired.
During a conference call with reporters Thursday morning, Domino said he had been getting great cooperation from other utilities and from state and federal authorities.
“I’m not having any problem procuring the resources I need,” he said, “and if I do find I need more resources, the doors are there for me to knock on.”
Domino said he had roughly 264 transmission lines and 259 substations still down as a result of Hurricane Rita. As of Thursday morning, he said, the company had restored power to 56,000 Texas customers. It had 230,000 customers still waiting.
