FRIENDSWOOD — Much of northwest Galveston County including parts of Friendswood and League City were without power Tuesday afternoon. Power company officials estimated that at least 35,000 customers were without power for more than an hour.
Texas-New Mexico Power Company officials said the blackout started about 12:15 p.m. and the lights started blinking again about 2 p.m. By 2:45 power had been restored to all of the power company's customers, spokeswoman Linda Criner said.
The outages happened as the power company was working on a section of a main transmission line at a substation in League City. The company could not confirm what caused the massive power disruption.
Criner said the work should not have caused the power outages.
The outage extended from Galveston County and into parts of Brazoria County.
