GALVESTON — A motorcyclist from Shepherd was identified as the lone fatality from a busy Lone Star Rally weekend in Galveston.
Roy Glenn Ener, 39, was riding at the back of a group of motorcycles when he lost control of his motorcycle in the 17000 block of FM 3005, about 2 miles southwest of Jamaica Beach, about 11:30 p.m. Friday. Ener, who was not wearing a helmet, slid along the pavement for 375 feet, police said.
He suffered a head injury and road rash and was flown to the University of Texas Medical Branch’s John Sealy Hospital for what was supposed to be “precaution only,” but he later died from head injuries, Galveston police Lt. Henry Porretto said.
Ener’s was the only death related to the rally, which drew thousands of bikers from across the state.
Although officers responded to several other accidents on the island during the weekend, none of the bikers was seriously injured, Lt. D.J. Alvarez said.
Statistics on citations for noise ordinance violations and unruly behavior downtown were not available Monday, Alvarez said.
