Creek grads shine on the field for Utes

Creek grads Jereme Brooks and Brandon Burton had a career day for the Utah Utes on Saturday.
Brooks set a career-high 135 receiving yards, and Burton had his first interception in Utah’s 45-14 win over New Mexico.
To go with his record yardage, Brooks also scored two touchdowns — a 69-yard receptions and a 29-yard run. The 69-yard catch also was a career long for Brooks.
Burton finished the game with four tackles and a pass breakup to go with his third-quarter interception.
Santa Fe grad C.J. Cavness had nine tackles in Houston’s 46-45 win over Tulsa. Also contributing in the Cougars stunning win were Friendswood grad Chase Turner (53.7 yard average in punts, one tackle), Dickinson grad Carl Barnett (started at center) and Hitchcock grad Chris Thompson (started at guard).
Dickinson grad Ivory Wade started at left guard and Friendswood grad Cameron Kaufhold played offensive line in Baylor’s 40-32 win over Missouri. For Missouri, Friendswood grad Will Ebner had eight tackles, while La Marque grad Jared Perry had seven catches for 145 yards.
Creek grad Taylor Echols had three tackles in Tulane’s 45-38 win over UTEP. For UTEP, La Marque grad Clarence Ward had seven tackles.
La Marque grad Korey Mangum had three tackles in Florida State’s 40-24 loss to Clemson.
Texas City grad Chaz Thompson had three tackles and an interception in Louisville’s 17-9 loss to West Virginia.
Texas City grad Brandon Robinson had four tackles in McNeese State’s 63-42 win over Sam Houston State. For Sam Houston, Ball grad Kenneth Jenkins had 10 tackles.
Texas City grad Vincent Pervis had 72 yards rushing and 37 receiving in SFA’s 31-27 win over Nicholls. Texas City grad Sean Warren added a tackle.
O’Neill Leads Emory Back Into Tourney
Friendswood grad Brannon O’Neill helped Emory earn its 14th straight NCAA after the Lady Eagles went 34-5 in the regular season. O’Neill is averaging 3.54 digs a game (358 overall) in 32 matches for the defending national champs.
Friendswood grad Jessie Hays helped lead Central Arkansas (25-3, 14-0) to the regular season Southland Conference title. Hays has 271 total kills and 271 digs for the Sugar Bears.
Also in the SLC, Dickinson grad Kaylee Hawkins has a team-high 463 digs (4.21 average) for Sam Houston State (19-12, 11-3).
Friendswood grads Adrianne Meengs and Lauren Holdorff have Lamar at 8-6 in conference play. Meengs has 164 kills, 811 assists (8.82 average) and 201 digs. Holdorff has 224 kills (2.77 average), 52 blocks and 69 digs.
In 22 matches, Santa Fe grad Tara Frantz has scored 223 points for UT-Arlington (11-15, 7-7). She has 203 kills and 37 blocks.
Ball grad Ali Zein-Eldin has 253 digs (2.30 average), 164 kills and 70 assists in 33 matches for Southwestern University (30-3, 15-0).
Creek grad Haley Jacob has 89 digs (2.17 average) for Oregon (16-6, 6-6).
Creek grad Becky Bekelja has 79 assists in 12 matches for McNeese State (17-10, 5-8).
Creek grad Megan Pendergast has 49 digs in 34 games for Nebraska (18-6, 11-4).
Nokelby Earns Gold Glove
Santa Fe grad Mark Nokelby earned an American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings Division III West Region Gold Glove for his outstanding defense at Texas Lutheran this past season.
Nokelby started in 44 games for TLU, posting a fielding percentage of .986 with seven outfield assists. In the past three seasons, he’s had a total of 19 assists.
