Tors win home opener; Coogs lose shootout

The Ball High Tornadoes finally returned home. The housewarming gift? David Suggs’ first victory as the Tors head coach.
Ball (1-2 record) dominated both offensively and defensively to record a 43-7 victory over the MacArthur Generals in its first game at Kermit Courville Stadium since Hurricane Ike.
The defense allowed just 158 total yards and even scored once, on a Jaybrian Williams fumble return for a touchdown.
Rodney Artmore was part of three scores, one on the ground and two in the air to Deandre Swan on the opening offensive play of the game and the other to Billy Williams. Lester Block and Marcus Ball also got touchdowns.
Joe Alcocer was 5-for-5 for extra points and averaged 44 yards a punt.
“We’re showing progress each week,” Suggs said. “That’s what we want tonight was the best performance yet.”

North Shore 44, La Marque 34
Playing a school more than four times their enrollment size, the Cougars didn’t back down from the challenge.
La Marque (2-1) actually led 20-7 in the first half, but the Mustangs dominant running attack found its groove. North Shore running back Tim Cornett had 352 yards rushing and four touchdowns to lead the Mustangs to the win.
The Cougars still managed to post 470 yards of total offense against the 5A powerhouse, including 116 yards rushing and three touchdowns from sophomore Tim Wright. Quarterback Emanuell Williams threw for 230 yards, including a 49-yard touchdown to Michael Gilmore. L’Reco Williams added 63 yards rushing and a score for La Marque.

Anahuac 49, Hitchcock 14
Morris Tuck threw for 350 yards, but it wasn’t enough for the Bulldogs on the road.
Hitchcock (0-2) gave up 435 yards rushing, as Anahuac pulled away for the blowout victory in the second half.
Scotty Williams scored on a 65-yard pass from Tuck for the Bulldogs’ lone offensive touchdown. Devante Provost had a 45-yard fumble return for a touchdown on defense.
Tuck finished the night 19-for-46 passing for 350 yards. Williams (112 yards) and Dawayne Barnes (101 yards) were Tuck’s top targets. Darius Dotson had just nine yards rushing but had 54 receiving.
Hitchcock hosts Waco Reicher at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

O’Connell 56, Mt. Carmel 0
The Bucs jumped out to a 30-0 lead in the first half and cruised to the home victory.
Corey Lee rushed for more than 100 yards, including an 8-yard touchdown. Also scoring rushing touchdowns for O’Connell were John Billareal (5 yards), Hugo Martinez (18 yards), Ryan Ross (22 yards) and Christian Grimaldo (3 yards).
Ross also threw a 15-yard touchdown to James Jones, and Grimaldo scored off a blocked punt by Lee.
Defensively, Drew Rios had two picks and Jonathan Paige had one. Luke DiMarco also had a safety and converted 5-of-7 extra point attempts.

Bay Area 7, Fort Bend Baptist 6
Justin McLain’s extra point proved to the be the difference for Bay Area Christian. McLain nailed the point after with 8:26 left in the third to ensure a 7-6 victory, the Broncos (1-3) first of the season.
Cody Henriques scored the touchdown on a 9-yard run. Fort Bend Baptist missed its extra point after it scored with 2:37 remaining in the first.
Henriques finished with 153 yards on 36 carries, helping the Broncos to 188 total yards rushing.
Bay Area stymied Fort Bend on the ground, allowing just 67 yards rushing.
