Galveston PD Gets New Boots For Walking
GALVESTON — The Galveston Police Department has been patrolling in 12-hour shifts in the weeks following Hurricane Ike’s island landfall. In that time, they have walked the streets of Galveston through the mud, muck and debris left behind by the storm. While conditions haven’t dampened their commitment to duty, it has certainly taken a toll on their footwear.
In a show of support, the Montgomery County Regulators, a law enforcement support organization, presented the department with new boots for each officer at the Galveston County Criminal Justice Center. This donation was made possible through the organization’s fundraising efforts.

Construction Commission Issues Violation Notices
The Texas Residential Construction Commission has issued its first round of notices of violation to builders and remodelers in the area affected by Hurricane Ike. The six notices allege that builders were not registered with the commission as state law requires, the commission announced in a released statement.
The commission advises consumers to review a builder or remodeler’s record with the commission and check references before they sign any work contract or agreement. The commission has an online database on its Web site, texasrcc.org. The commission’s number is 877-651-TRCC.
The commission’s executive director, Duane Waddill, said: “The commission is warning Texans about storm chasers. These storm chasers are unregistered builders who will be off chasing the next storm in six months. When you need warranty work, you will not be able to reach them; they will not be here.”
