GALVESTON — Cherryholmes will perform at 8 p.m. today at The Grand 1894 Opera House, 2020 Postoffice St.
The band, with roots in bluegrass, Celtic music and jazz, won the 2005 International Bluegrass Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year Award. The band’s Grammy-nominated album, “Black And White,” was No. 1 on Billboard’s Bluegrass Album Chart.
Cherryholmes’ latest album, “Don’t Believe,” won Grammy nominations for Best Bluegrass Album, and the song “Sumatra” was nominated for the Best Country Instrumental Performance.
The band is made up of members of the Cherryholmes family: Jere and Sandy Lee and their children, Cia Leigh, BJ, Skip and Molly Kate. Family members began performing after going to a bluegrass festival and wondering what it would be like to start their own band.
Tickets range from $18.50 to $58. Call 409-765-1894, 800-821-1894, or visit www.thegrand.com.
