Kids Brushing Up On Old Masters
For centuries, art academies required students to copy the work of the Old Masters. From drawings and prints, students learned to create lines, master shading and contour figures. From paintings they learned composition and how to develop visual narrative.
Kingwood Park High School art teacher Kara Czepiel’s advanced placement art students have revived the tradition and 16 examples of their work are on view in the Kinder Foundation Gallery at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston’s Caroline Wiess Law Building.

Two Faiths — One Outlook
Entering its final three weeks, one Holocaust Museum exhibit draws its name from Pope John Paul II’s 1993 appeal marking the 50th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, when he said: “As Christians and Jews, following the example of the faith of Abraham, we are called to be a blessing to the world. This is the common task awaiting us. It is therefore necessary for us, Christians and Jews, to first be a blessing to one another.”
The exhibit, created by Xavier University in Cincinnati, includes photos, video footage, documents and artifacts recording the extraordinary contributions of Pope John Paul II to relations between the two faiths, shattering the chain of 2,000 years of painful history between Roman Catholics and Jews.
