More than one movie has included a brass band as symbolic of the Salvation Army, but Lt. Chris Bryant is working against that stereotype by starting a monthly fellowship ministry focused on motorcycles.
“The Salvation Army here in Texas City will be starting up a new motorcycle ministry,” he said. “We would like to meet the fourth Saturday of every month starting in October for a ride, some fellowship, refreshment and a devotion. This is open to everyone, no matter age, sex, denomination or even religion.”
All bikers wanting to ride are invited to assemble at 10 a.m. Oct. 24 in Mall of the Mainland parking lot behind The Olive Garden. The group will then ride to The Salvation Army in Texas City, 4210 Texas Ave., where the bikers will have a community fall festival from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with games and food for the family.
Though the activity will be news to the local Salvation Army fans, the brass band still lives. Bryant himself plays B-flat tuba in it.

Gary Chapman is famous in evangelical church circles for his books on the languages of love, which have sold more than 5 million copies and taken him worldwide on speaking tours.
He will be leading a marriage conference at 9 a.m. Sept. 26 at Bay Area First Baptist, 4800 W. Main, in League City. Conference materials label it as a “great tool to refresh a marriage in this busy world.”
The cost is $35.
