FRIENDSWOOD — Police arrested a private school teacher Thursday on charges that she had sex with a 17-year-old student along a deserted road in December.
Jill Lewis, 26, of Dickinson, is being held in the Galveston County Jail on a $30,000 bond after she turned herself in to investigators Thursday, police said.
Lewis is a journalism, speech and computer teacher at Living Stones Christian School in Alvin, the school’s Web site said.
No one answered the phone at the school’s office late Thursday and efforts to reach the school’s principal for comment were unsuccessful.
Friendswood Police Chief Bob Wieners said the school is aware of the charges.
An anonymous tipster called CrimeStoppers and told about Lewis and the student, Wieners said.
Police allege during the second week of December, Lewis and one of her male students met in Friendswood and had sex off a dead-end road, Wieners said. That’s the only occurrence police know of, he said.
Police secured a warrant for Lewis’ arrest Thursday and charged her with having an improper relationship between an educator and a student, a second-degree felony punishable by two to 20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.
Living Stones Christian School has students in kindergarten through 12th grade.
Police said no Friendswood schools, public or private, were implicated in the investigation.
