GALVESTON — Well-known Vegas entertainer Rita Rudner brings her trademark epigrammatic style to The Grand 1894 Opera House for two performances Saturday.
Rita’s take on shopping, diets, relationships and more shopping will have audiences rolling in the aisles.
In a city of cabarets and production shows, Rudner is one of the few Las Vegas female headliners who has achieved success by keeping her clothes on. An accomplished actress, best-selling author and comedian, Rudner’s witty commentary on men and relationships has earned her national acclaim and awards. With her off-kilter, sing-songy delivery that kind of humor comes off a lot less dark when she’s saying it.
After five years at New York-New York, Rudner has an ongoing gig at the big showroom at Harrah’s in Las Vegas.
Rudner doesn’t rely on shtick or props or wacky backdrops to get her point across. It’s just her, a curtain, a spotlight and a microphone.
Now that she is the proud parent of a 4-year-old, she also works in some good mommy material, complete with the notion that being a working mom in Vegas is perfect because she has hired a Rita Rudner impersonator as a nanny so her daughter never knows that she’s not there.
“He’s really great with her,” Rudner said.
That’s not a big leap from her pre-mommy routines.
She once mused, “When I meet a man I ask myself, ‘Is this the man I want my children to spend their weekends with?’”
