Ex-cop Arrested On Probation Violations
GALVESTON — A former Galveston police officer, accused of violating terms of his probation, was arrested Saturday morning at his home in Coldspring, authorities said.
U.S. Marshals, Galveston police and Galveston County sheriff’s officials arrested Price Padgett, 38, about 12:30 a.m. on Richey Road near state Highway 150, Cameron Welch, a deputy with the U.S. Marshals, said.
Padgett was convicted in September 2007 of possessing less than 1 gram of a controlled substance and sentenced to five years probation, Welch said.
The incident stemmed from when Padgett was involved in a one-car crash on FM 3005 on New Year’s Day 2005, and police found a small amount of ecstasy in his car, Welch said.
A warrant for Padgett’s arrest was issued several months ago, after he violated terms of his probation, Welch said.
Padgett was taken to Galveston County Jail, and no bond was set because of his former status as a fugitive, Welch said.
The arrest was carried out with the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders and Fugitive Task Force, a group composed of U.S. Marshals, the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office and Galveston Police Department.
